Long walks on golden sandy beaches, enjoying the sunset with loved ones from the dunes or a cosy family picnic in the woods? Costa Blanca South has all the above to offer and much more!

‘La Pinada’ of Guardamar is a forest area of no less than 800 hectares. It extends on former hiking dykes, which were enhanced by planting different types of plants and trees. Especially pine, palm, cypress and eucalyptus trees.

The plantation lasted 30 years and was started to protect the resort from the ever encroaching dunes. Since 1930, the Pinada has been showing in its current form. The task proved successful and is also a wonderful example of how man and nature can work together towards a better future.

Today, the Pinada is divided into 2 parks, one is called “Alfonso XII” and the other is called “ Reina Sofia”. The parks stretch between the city centre and the beaches of Babilonia and Los Viveros.

Sun, sea and beach

Not only is it great for hiking in the forest area of La Pinada, but it is also blissful to stay at one of the many beaches. These include three Blue Flag award-winning beaches, viz: Playa Centro, Playa de la Roqueta and Playa del Moncayo.

Other beaches include the 1.2 km-long Playa Camp, Playa Babilonia, Playa Vivers and the sandy beach Playa de Les Ortigues, which borders Torrevieja.

Spring is the period par excellence to see blossoms in the Murcia region.

This year too, you can admire that soft colour splendour.

But when spring is in the air, almost all fruit trees are in bloom in the Murcia area

Unfortunately, this spectacle lasts only a few weeks. Flowering starts in mid-February and ends as early as mid-March.
Depending on weather conditions, of course.

Note that the various fruit trees do not all bloom at the same time, apricots and peaches provide beautiful blossoms.

In Cieza, there are guided, conducted walks, a visit to the fruit museum, tasting of the local liqueur, gastronomy evenings…

They have mapped out hiking trails and cycling routes that run in or along the fields. Of course, you can also visit this natural beauty by car.
So everyone can enjoy: young and old.

Parque del Molina del Aqua

Spend an afternoon in Torrevieja’s Parque del Molino del Agua. This hidden gem offers a chance to stroll through a majestic pine forest, enjoy a picnic in the shade of mature trees, and stroll through the spectacular sand dunes that edge La Mata’s blue flag golden sand beach.

Located in the north of Torrevieja’s enclave, the park encompasses most of 43 hectares of beautifully preserved natural forest.

Parque del Molino del Agua: a serene and tranquil experience

At first glance, Parque del Molino del Agua is not something that raises expectations, but that soon changes once you spend a few minutes exploring the interior and appreciate the enormity of the location.

The park’s main entrance is in the southwest corner, next to the American-themed Restaurante Queen Mississippi and steamboat (worth a visit in itself).

A spectacular water feature at this highest point of the park sends water cascading down the hill, through a system of interconnected viaducts winding through the forest to freshwater pools, ending the journey in a lake with a central fountain and inhabited by geese, ducks and turtles.

The viaducts can be crossed by paths and beautiful bridges that span the waterway, with waterfalls along the nearly quarter of a kilometre route. Due to its elevated location and proximity to the sea, you can catch a glimpse of the Mediterranean through the park’s treetops.
